If the shoe fits…

She likes to write. Encourage her.

Whatever you do, do not let her drink.
When she does, let her dance,
let her smoke another cigarette,
and let her yell at you.
Listen to her, because chances are
she is telling you that she loves you,
and this is a memory you do not want to forget.

Do not expect a lot of help from her friends.
They do not know about you,
and you should have been prepared for that.
You should have expected that.
She likes secrets, and this just shows
you were the most important one to keep.

Be prepared to be tackled when she is happy.

Wish her a happy birthday, and do not be late.
She will be elated. She will hold such joy
within her heart, that you will not even believe
that you were the one to cause such happiness.
Celebrate her enough for the both of you.

If she says she is going to kill you,
do not assume that it is a metaphor.

When she plays you a song, listen to it throughly.
This is her way of communicating everything
she cannot speak.

If she is feeling down, close the blinds
and crawl into bed. Wrap yourself around her
and watch twelve hours of whatever
ridiculous television show she has chosen,
because those are the times
she will appreciate the most.

Repeat to yourself that she will love you one day,
and some day you will start to believe it.

Finally, your time with her will be the happiest
you have been in your entire life. Enjoy it.

Hospitals, ambulances, orphanages, schools, parks, mosques, churches, cemeteries, power plants & UN shelters - all targeted by ‘Israel’ using GPS guided smart bombs to slaughter the children of Palestine. It’s getting worse every day while you watch on screens from a distance, immobilized, not really understanding what Gaza means and bickering amongst yourselves about how you believe an oppressed people should resist their oppressor. Even to say enough is enough is so vapid these days. How many times can we say it? How far removed from the rhythm and beat of life can people be?

My heart breaks.

Overheard before the march:

'Daddy, why are we protesting?'

'Because little kids are being killed in #Gaza and we should always stand up for those who need it'

'Thats so sad, why are they being killed daddy?'

'Because there are very bad people in the world with too much power. Remember I taught you about the Nazis?'

'Yes daddy, I remember'

'Well the Nazis are still around pumpkin, they call themselves Zionists now'

Over the weekend in Bundjalung country (Byron Bay) a group of friends and i had the absolute pleasure of connecting with some elders of the Githabul tribe. Local Original Elder Uncle Yilla (pictured) lead a silent symbolic march in the middle of town so he and the local community could show their solidarity with the people of #Gaza. I know most of you are trying to process the atrocities committed by Israel at the moment, but i would just like to remind you all that you also live on a land that is colonised and where the original people were massacred. Injustices against the indigenous continue and are current, not history - Do not close your eyes, you cannot only support justice when your ”own” are the victims of injustice.
